    Very nice video, used this to install a ZL loop in my 1989 2203, however you never talked about the R29 resistor. I assume this is the resistor which should be changed according to step 15 in the instructions. What value did you use? I left the stock 10k in mine, and tbh can't hear any difference, but if there is long term negative effects to not change it I would like to know. Or is there just the 10k (no serial resistors) as mentioned in step 15, that can be swapped for a 8.2k, but doesn't need to be swapped per se?

    • @mythoflogic
      @mythoflogic 22 дня назад

      This video was not intended as a complete guide to installation. Merely what I did to make it work on this particular amp. Being that it was five years ago I have no memory of what I did in this instance. Sorry if this isn't helpful. Follow the instructions completely including step 15 and you can't go too far wrong. Thanks for the kind remarks and for watching...

    Man, that's a 1966 Fender Deluxe amplifier that is the most iconic amplifier ever built a black face Deluxe. And you use those cheap Chinese On the inside Ypu used okay JJ's under the dog box and a vische for the bias cap But the rest were cheap chinese caps.... Shame on you and you're so ugly. Yes, I'm unoriginal blocky. Ceramic resistors on the power tubes. Those are too heavy to hang out in the air like that. Why didn't you use regular metal film? Resistors like a normal person..

    I just bought one of these ... a 1967. Much agree on the Mesa B tubes ... too harsh sounding in other amps, and have an early fail rate from my limited experience with them. Tung Sol preamps would be good in this. I am going to have 5881's (Tung Sol) installed in mine. Nowadays, you can get SoZo blue caps for where those orange guys are living. I personally like the SS rectification..VERY articulate with those 6v6's. Normal channel is best, of course; but vibrato channel sounds really good. And if you don't need so much power, those 6v6's are a great alternative! Great job, brother!

    I have a good Marshall 64' jtm 45 clone that has classic tone output transformer and choke. I met upgrade to the Mercury magnetics after hearing the video. It's not a huge difference but I would say it's at least a 20 to 25% difference. The best way I can describe it is the Mercury magnetic transformers just sound more solid and deep sounding with more authority . What are the classic tone amp sounds a little bit thinner almost like it's just slightly out of phase . Kind of like you almost wired a speaker up. I'm over exaggerating but just a little bit like that.

  • @davebird534
    @davebird534 5 месяцев назад

    Hey scooter I had an experience with Mercury magnetic transformers 8 years ago for my 1964 fender Princeton. I got the fat stack output transformer and choke. It's physically a little taller but it fits in the hole in the chasing doesn't have to be widened. The first thing I noticed about it it had a deeper fuller sound . Add more bass and tighter Bass, little more low mids, a little more presence on the highs it definitely had more punch it was tighter feeling overall. I also say it was more harmonically rich. And I can say all those things apply to the difference between the classic tone transformer in the Mercury mechanics and the other amp. I hear a little more gain or overdrive in the Mercury magnetics amp. That could be due to the preamp. Maybe he had a few tubes that were hotter in the Mercury magnetics amp.

    Big fan of MM trannies & choke.. They do need ample break in time. The lows will become more present in the punch ,the midrange will open up with familiarity and the highs will get sweeter. What’s mindblowing is MM trannies/choke in a JVM 410H. Talk about a dear caught in the headlights.. The amps sound rad and I dig the red levant bigtime!

    I know this is an old video but, I had 2-3 of these blocks distort on me and 1 cracked the saddle. So all 4 of my Floyd Rose guitars all have Fu-tone Titanium saddle blocks and I have zero issues. Even proper tighten after years, the string leaves deep cuts in the blocks and stops griping the stings. Especially on the high E and B strings, I had mine slipping out. The Titanium or steel blocks worked better for me with Zero issues.

    I have a Classic & a Standard Falcon. I’ve been playing for over 50 years, these being the best Strats I’ve ever played, mostly due to those fabulous necks, construction, profile, & frets. Much more comfortable than Fender necks, which I never quite jelled with. When in a “Gibson” mood, I pick up one of my US Peavey P90 Firenzas, another Peavey sleeper in the same price range ✅ These USA Peaveys are the best out in the open secret in the field 🤫
